DIRECTORS BIO
A well-respected director, actor, artistic director, set designer and theater professional, Gary Lee Reed’s career has spanned four decades and reached from coast to coast. He has worked with Sir Ian McKellan and the National Theatre of London, Alfred Molina, Alan Young, Barry Williams and Jon Schuck as well as his wife Bonnie Bailey Reed who was a series regular on ABC Family's State of Grace.
Popular with theater management for his versatility, creativity and resourcefulness, Gary Reed has been tapped to direct a diverse range of productions throughout the country. He is also an Emmy award winning Art Director.
Gary most recently directed three world premiere play and Musicalss;
The Story of Alice, Villa Thrilla at the CircleX space in Atwater Village, Hah Nah at the Lounge Theatre in Hollywood and Shades for LATC. Before that he directed a very successful production of And The World Goes Round at the NoHo Arts Center. His critically-acclaimed Hollywood production of Godspell garnered 22 nominations and awards including Critic’s Choice in the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly’s Pick of the Week and Daily Variety’s Critic’s Pick. His production of Most Happy Fella was nominated best musical by LA Weekly.

To Kill A Mockingbird, The Andersonville Trial, Bonnie And Clyde-The Two Fisted Six Gun Musical, My Way, A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra, 1776, Jerry’s Girls, Woman In Black, Sentimental Journey and the world premieres of Lights, Dancing With the Bad Man and Soldier’s Song. His production of Falling Lightly won first place at the Annual Jerome Lawrence One Act Play Festival in Los Angeles. He is also an Emmy Award winning art director. He most recently directed the national tour of the Comedy Improv Duo, Theatre - Off The Cuff.
He has won numerous awards for his set designs which include
The Seagull, Driving Miss Daisy, Godspell, The Devils Disciple, To Kill A Mockingbird, Wit, King Lear, 12th Night, The Crucible, Long days Journey Into Night, The Nibroc Trilogy and Into the Woods to name a few.
Gary can be seen this summer as Doc in Sac. Music Circus Production of West Side Story
and before that in Billy Elliot for La Mirada. he recently performed in the Ovation Winning Floyd Collins (Best Musical, large Theatre) and before that, Night Hawks for Crown City Theatre and has performed in a wide range of dramas, comedies, musicals and experimental theater. The Los Angeles Center Theatre Group’s production of Post Office recently featured Gary as Ben Franklin. His credits include An Enemy of the People (Ahmanson Theater),Reverend Moore in The Welk Resorts production of Footloose, Seussical (Civic Light Opera South Bay), Oklahoma, Western Star, A Christmas Carol, Phantom, Gigi and South Pacific, 1776 (Sacramento Music Circus, Houston Theatre Under The Stars, and The Municipal Opera Association of St. Louis), Children of a Lesser God and Man of La Mancha (Rubicon Theater) Godspell (National Tour) The Music Man (Regional Tour) Anne of Green Gables (Lewis Family Playhouse) and over 100 Equity Waiver theater productions.
Gary has done numerous commercials as well as film and television roles. His film work includes
Enchanted, Polar Express, The Glimmer Man and for television Revenge, From Hollywood to Rose,Providence, Ally McBeal, General Hospital and Port Charles. Gary is a member of SAG-AFTRA, AEA and a published playwright for a book of theater games called Little Book of Theater Games and has most recently completed writing a play titled Personal Effects..
